Ten Best Truck Bed Tent Reviews

Napier Outdoors SPORTZ Tent Truck

You’ll find a lot of Napier products on our list, for a good reason; they make quality truck tents. The Sportz tent truck features camouflage, green oak coloring, and is available in two sizes (5.7 to 5.8 and 6 to 6.5 ft).

It is very stylish and sturdy and installs easily on your truck. The instructions are a bit confusing when you have to set up poles. And the wind will make your job even harder, so try to avoid windy conditions.

It is spacious, fit for two people. The colors are unique, and might not fit every truck. It is also worth mentioning that the tent extends outwards (off the tailgate) by 6 feet, so you can have enough shade to rest and enjoy the day.

Pros:

  • sturdy and durable
  • unique colors
  • spacious
  • extendable (off the tailgate)

Cons:

  • somewhat confusing instructions

Napier Outdoor Truck Tent is 60 x 60 inches big, made of quality polyester and fit 5 ft truck beds. The tent features blue and grey color design and is spacious enough to settle two people.

Setup isn’t easy, and it will take you quite some time to learn the process. But once you do set it up, you’ll enjoy the space, security and the shade it offers. The entry is covered to protect you from the rain or sun and is useful in many other ways.

It is ideal for shorter beds, and we can’t recommend it for bigger beds. The tent is very sturdy, able to withstand harsh conditions and strong winds. The only issue we found with this tent was the back side opening, which features one zipper. This means that you have to unzip it all the way down to open it up.

Pros:

  • sturdy and stable
  • withstands harsh conditions
  • breathable and spacious
  • the cover above entrance provides excellent protection

Cons:

  • back opening should have two zippers

Napier Outdoors Sportz Truck Tent

Napier Outdoors Sportz Tent Truck is ideal for 5.5 to 5.6 feet truck beds. While most of Napier’s tents have similar names, they are all quite different in nature. Rightline Gear Full Size Truck Tent

Rightline Gear tent is purchasable in many sizes and will fit virtually any truck bed. It is reasonably priced and sturdy, having quality straps and flexible but durable nylon buckle. The tent features floorless design, which does make installation a bit easier.

Apart from the fact that it comes in all sizes (regarding truck beds), Rightline Gear tent is purchasable in 3 types: medium, full and compact truck. It also comes with rainfly, carrying bag and instruction raft, which is sewn in the fabric.

The product is surprisingly sturdy (considering the price), and holds on to strong wind. The no-floor design also makes it easy to assemble and disassemble. However, the straps will rub off the truck bed railing and potentially scrap the paint off.

  • versatile (all sizes and types)

  • inexpensive

Cons:

  • the bands rub on the paint

Kodiak Canvas Truck Tent

Kodiak Canvas tent is one of the best products on the list but is also relatively expensive. It will fit the beds from 5 to 8 feet, though you need to select the sizing. The tent is extremely durable, made of 100% cotton canvas.

The tent is spacious, breathable and holds well in windy conditions. It features tailgate down build, which saves on space. This tunnel designed tent features D shaped doors, two pouches for storing gear, and five small windows.

The tent’s frame is made of steel tubes. The tubes connect to the rails via clamp-on method, which makes installation very simple. Instructions are horrible, and you are probably better off without them (seriously), which is a shame since the installation is supposed to be simple.

All in all, the tent is spacious (2 people), sturdy, made of high-quality materials: both tent and its frame are durable and stable.

Pros:

  • extremely durable
  • easy setup
  • made of high-quality material
  • value for money

Cons:

  • the awning is sturdy

Cons:

The product arrives with four poles and features d-shaped doors, several windows, and two gear/storage pockets. The poles are made of fiberglass and can withstand strong winds. They are also shockproof.

It comes with rainfly, carrying bag, and necessary installing tools. The tent is big enough for two people. On the downside, it doesn’t have an awning. Also, the instructions are terrible; the good news is that you can set it out without them.

DAC Full Size Tent

DAC Full Size Tent is very easy to set up, rainproof, shockproof, and will fit pretty much all the vehicle with 58-inch or wider tailgate. It is spacious, features two meshed windows (for privacy purposes), and is surprisingly inexpensive when compared to others on the list.

The tent is made of quality polyester and comes with carrying bag, elastic shock cords, plastic hooks, and other tools. It holds well to weather, both rain, and wind (no leaking). There are some small gaps in between the tailgate and the truck (in corners), but you receive an elastic cord to astrict and close the gaps.

It doesn’t have an awning like most others on the list do, and that’s a downside. Also, you will have to cover the gaps in corners for privacy issues and to prevent insects from entering your tent.

Pros:

  • inexpensive
  • sturdy and stable
  • waterproof and shockproof
  • spacious and ventilated

Cons:

  • leaves gaps in the corners
  • lacks awning

Honda 08Z04-T6Z-100A Tent

It is needless to say that the Honda tent is designed for Honda owners explicitly, but it still deserves to be on our list. While it is made to fit Honda’s, it will fit in any truck beds that can accomodate the same dimensions. Just maybe not as perfectly. It is fit for two people, sets up nicely and is quite durable. The Honda Tent will take you some time to assemble it for the first time, but it isn’t difficult.

The frame may seem too flexible and flimsy, but the structure is surprisingly robust. Poles and hooks are both elastic, which helps with faster assembly. Tent features storage compartments, rainfly, and has plenty of space.

Naturally, it isn’t the most versatile tent, and will not fit most trucks, which is a downside. But it is quality made, adjustable and cost-effective; it is well worth the money. It is also worth mentioning that tent does feature awning (4×4).

Pros:

  • sophisticated and well built
  • adjustable features elastic poles
  • sturdy and stable
  • waterproof
  • plenty of room, good airflow

Cons:

  • fit only for specific vehicles

Best Truck Bed Tent Buyer’s Mini-Guide

Why go for the truck tent? Well, the answer is quite simple: the truck tent is a mixture of tent and RV. You can move, but you can also camp, which isn’t the case with regular tents. You are also well above the ground, and the truck bed provides more stability to the tent. And like any other regular tent, it protects you from cold weather, rain, insects, wind, and so forth.

But, you need to make sure you select the right tent. Here are a couple of things you need to keep in mind:

Compatibility

Of course, before you start thinking about design, the build, durability, and the looks, you need to make sure that the tent fits your truck bed. Just measure your truck bed, and then compare the numbers with that of the products.

We did point out the numbers as we reviewed the tents on our list. However, keep in mind that some tents won’t fit your truck despite the size. You need to make sure that the type of your bed truck is compatible with the bed tent too!

Installation Difficulty

Assembling the truck tent is similar to that of regular tents, the only difference being the mounting process. Now, almost all of these products are easy to install, especially if two people are doing the job. But, if you never assembled a tent before, you will need some practice. And I assume you don’t want to practice constructing in the woods; practice at home if you find the installation too tricky.

Durability

You should always seek the tents that are well built and can last for a long time. Note that you should also pay attention to the weather conditions in your region (or your camping region).

Some tents deal with rain and wind better than others. Mind the fabric, the frame (the tube’s material and construction). Pay attention to small details that might be important to you.

Other Factors

Think about the small details. For instance, would you like a tent with or without the awning? Furthermore, which color would you prefer? How many windows would you find suitable? What is your budget?

There are numerous answers to these questions, but answering them can help you narrow down your choices. Also, consider whether you want a tent with the sewn-in floor or not? Any small thing will help you make the optimal decision.
